Includes a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) that progresses from less to more intensive support based on the student's individual needs.

Ascend Math provides a personalized, mastery-based learning environment that functions within a multi-tiered framework. Through adaptive placement assessments and continual progress monitoring, students receive Tier II or Tier III interventions as needed. Teachers use real-time data dashboards to flexibly group students and provide more intensive support when mastery is not achieved, ensuring movement in and out of tiers is responsive to student needs.

The scope and sequence of the Intervention is aligned to daily Tier I instruction and standard-level learning progressions.

Ascend Math aligns with state standards and allows teachers to assign “Just in Time” lessons connected directly to Tier I classroom instruction. This feature addresses unfinished learning while reinforcing the grade-level concept being taught, ensuring interventions are supplemental and aligned to the core curriculum. In the example below 4th grade students are working on a Unit Extending Operations to Fractions.  The Intervention pathway will assess students’ knowledge of foundational skills for this unit.

The intervention is targeted, differentiated, and supplemental to Tier I instruction.

Response: Each student’s plan is built from adaptive assessments. Skills already mastered are removed, allowing students to work only on targeted areas of need. Because lessons adapt individually, intervention is differentiated and supplemental, not a replacement for classroom learning.

The intervention is aligned with evidence-based instructional strategies to promote conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and real-world problem solving.

Response: Ascend Math incorporates multi-modal instruction (video, interactive practice, exploratory features, printable study guides) designed with UDL principles. Instruction emphasizes conceptual understanding through multiple representations (CPA), procedural practice, and applied problem solving. Students demonstrate mastery before advancing, ensuring rigor and accountability. The system supports a positive math identity by positioning all learners as capable

The intervention includes continual assessment and in-depth analysis of each student's data to inform flexible movement in and out of Tiers II and III.

Response: The program provides continual embedded assessment through pre-assessments, mastery checks, and ongoing tracking. Teachers have access to real-time reports such as the Live Student Tracker and Class Dashboards, allowing them to monitor progress, analyze data trends, and make informed instructional decisions. This continuous monitoring supports flexible tier movement based on demonstrated student growth.

  • A multi-tiered system of support responsive to individual needs
  • Alignment to Tier I instruction and state standards
  • Targeted, differentiated, and supplemental intervention
  • Evidence-based strategies fostering conceptual and procedural mastery
  • Ongoing assessment driving flexible placement in intervention tiers

This framework ensures schools can provide equitable, effective, and standards-aligned math intervention for all students, including those at risk of not reaching grade-level proficiency.
